On behalf of the PACTRIMS 2008 Organizing Committee, we take great pleasure in welcoming you to the 1st PACTRIMS (Pan-Asian Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis) Congress.
Although multiple sclerosis is not as common in Asia as in the West, it is nevertheless an important neurological disease, affecting more than 50,000 patients in Asia, causing a lot of pain and disability with enormous financial cost and burden. There have also been many controversies on the pathogenesis, manifestations, and management of this condition. The formation of PACTRIMS and organization of this inaugural congress is thus timely. The Scientific Committee has designed an excellent scientific program, with renowned faculty from the region as well as internationally. There is an educational program as well as in depth symposia dealing with difficult and controversial issues such as diagnostic criteria in Asia and aquaporin-4 autoantibodies.
The delegates will also find Kuala Lumpur an interesting place. Malaysia has been described as “Truly Asia”, due to the kaleidoscope of people, culture and cuisines that invigorate the senses. The exciting venue will set the stage for what promises to be a memorable and rewarding experience.
